Integrating Hierarchical Controlled Vocabularies With OWL Ontology: A Case Study from the Domain of Molecular Interactions
Many efforts at standardising terminologies within the biological domain have resulted in the construction of hierarchical controlled vocabularies that capture domain knowledge. Vocabularies, such as the PSI-MI vocabulary, capture both deep and extensive domain knowledge, in the OBO (Open Biomedical Ontologies) format. However hierarchical vocabularies, such as PSI-MI which are represented in O...
متن کاملIntegrating Vocabularies: Discovering and Representing Vocabulary Maps
The Semantic Web would enable new ways of doing business on the Web that require development of advanced business document integration technologies performing intelligent document transformation. The documents use different vocabularies that consist of large hierarchies of terms. Accordingly, vocabulary mapping and transformation becomes an important task in the whole business document transfor...
متن کاملIntegrating Consumer-Oriented Vocabularies with Selected Professional Ones from the UMLS Using Semantic Web Technologies
During the past few years, many consumer-oriented vocabularies have been developed to reflect the multitude of ways consumers express health topics, in order to help lay users access health information and manage their personal healthcare data. To address problems such as interoperability, ambiguity, and heterogeneity of medical information, the lay expressions from consumer vocabularies need t...
متن کاملLinguistic Watermark 3.0: An RDF Framework and a Software Library for Bridging Language and Ontologies in the Semantic Web
In this paper, we present a framework for representing heterogeneous linguistic resources and for integrating their content with Semantic Web ontologies. This work, which extends and improves previous research conducted by these same authors, articulates into two main results: first, a set of coordinated RDF vocabularies providing descriptors for representing linguistic resources and their soft...
متن کاملLCSH, SKOS and Linked Data
A technique for converting Library of Congress Subject Headings MARCXML to Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) RDF is described. Strengths of the SKOS vocabulary are highlighted, as well as possible points for extension, and the integration of other semantic web vocabularies such as Dublin Core. An application for making the vocabulary available as linkeddata on the Web is also described.
